Last weeks Friday Fly and the Cod opening was a bit of a wash out in Canberra, so this week I blew the cobwebs off by chasing a few Carp in Lake Burley Griffin. It didn't take long to find plenty of Carp feeding around the edges and they weren't very fussy. Small Fuzzle Buggers and Orange Sporks worked great with a 'draw and drop' presentation where you cast past your target and draw the fly back into position to drop in front of the fish.
|Orange Spork Variation|
I came across the Barr's Spork pattern thanks to YouTube and there's a great video on how to tie it on Martyn White Flicking Feathers channel. I've adapted this version to suit my local waters and you'd be hard pressed to find a feeding carp in Canberra that won't eat it!
The basic pattern for my variation is:
Hook: TMC 106 size 6
Eyes: Small or medium bead chain
Tail: Grizzly Marabou orange
Rib: Copper wire
Body: Hends Spectra Dub (46) and burnt orange possum dubbing (head)
Hackle: Grizzly Saddle
Legs: Barred rubber legs orange
